Barclays is a global financial services provider. We help millions of customers all over the world to borrow, save and invest. We transact billions of pounds a day. Everything we do for our customers is supported by IT systems. Our largest global technology centre is in Knutsford, Cheshire. Known as 'Radbroke' (after Radbroke Hall which is the original house and estate on which the site is built), over 3500 people work here every day in technology and operations roles.
“We have to thank Barclays for giving our students the opportunity to work with a global bank on a live brief,” said Tutor Paul McConnell.
“It is invaluable experience and an amazing achievement for our students to have on their university applications and CVs.”
Pingit; a smartphone solution for sending and receiving money using just a telephone number. You do not need to bank with Barclays to use Pingit. Barclays set the BTEC Graphic Design students the task of creating a marketing storyboard to promote Pingit – a service that allows users to send and receive money with just a telephone number.
“We asked the Priestley students for their ideas on how they would market Pingit to people in their age group,” said Julian Bucknall, of Barclays.
“This is the second year we have worked with Priestley and once again have been really impressed with the students’ creativeness and professionalism.”

Extended Diploma Year 2 Art and Design Fashion and Textiles students have been asked how they might redesign the interior of a century-old building in Knutsford.
Barclays offered Art and Design students from Priestley College the opportunity as part of their coursework to consider what changes they could make to Radbroke Hall to increase its appeal to entrepreneurs and start-up businesses. The Radbroke Hall building is a white French chateau-style former country house and takes its name from a stream, Red Brook, that runs through the grounds. It was built between 1914 and 1917 for Manchester businessman Claude Hardy and his wife Olga, the architect was Percy Worthington.
Since 1972 it has been used as offices and meeting rooms by Barclays.
“Barclays employs over 3,500 at the Technology Centre in Knutsford. We’ve made a number of improvements to the facilities on the site over the years, and Radbroke Hall itself is something we want to make better use of,” said Julian Bucknall, of Barclays.
“We gave Priestley students the opportunity to develop some innovative and inspiring ways to transform the Grade II listed building.”
This is the second year Priestley College, in Warrington, has worked with Barclays on live briefs that challenge its artistic students.
Former Birchwood Community High pupil Elli Hill (below, right) was judged to have the best ideas for the building redesign. Jade Houghton was runner up.
