Beer Labels

Your task is to design a Corporate Identity for a new microbrewery. You are also asked to come up with ideas for a suitable name for the business; the client has said that the name should be dynamic. As this is a 'live' assignment brief, you will be able to meet with your client to discuss your ideas at different points in this assignment; alongside your tutors and peers, you will have the opportunity to receive frank and constructive feedback.

The assignment has two phases: With the Company Identity phase you will work on researching your subject, developing the brand, and producing the Finished Artwork for the company stationery. The second phase will be to work on the Product Identity of one of the brewery's house beers. All have a very distinctive name, colour, and flavour. How these products are assigned to individual designers will be decided midway.

Headphones

As a graphic designer you will be expected to have a wide set of skills and often these are applied to packaging design briefs. Packaging plays an essential role in the product market, attracting a buyer to a product through innovative and exciting ways. Successful packaging design can attract attention and boost sales. The music industry invests millions of pounds into graphic design and marketing each year, especially into music accessories. Consider how many people own the latest edition of the Ipod, or MP3 player, the user strives to look fashionable and often
wants to stand out from the crowd.

This project runs for 5 weeks and the main aim is to produce the artwork and designs of the packaging for both inner and outer ear headphones, as well as artwork to decorate these. You will also design advertising and produce a 3D package (vacuum formed). You must look at the work of many graphic designers and design companies, UK based and worldwide, in order to discover the many ways in which packaging has been created in original and creative ways.

Film Poster

Often movies are marketed differently if they are re-released; the visual content of the advertising material is sometimes replaced with imagery that is thought more up to date. If that movie is being released for the first time in a particular part of the world, the imagery may be tailored to suit the tastes or cultural considerations of the audience in that particular part of the world.

You are required to develop an alternative poster such as this for a movie that deals with representing alternate realities or illusion and reality. You will need to get very familiar with the content of an appropriate movie and decide its dominant visual content.

You will need to decide on an evocative or semi-abstract response - avoid including actor likenesses and other protected property. You will need to research the subtle differences between audience tastes across different countries.

Tate Paint 2011

There has been a growing trend for home decoration and improvements, emphasised by TV programmes and DIY and home improvement magazines. These trends have resulted in an increasing number of companies producing paint. The TATE gallery has a range that reflects the traditional colour palettes sought after by clients with period homes.

The TATE is aiming to expand its range, rebrand the logo and develop a more varied colour palette by reference to many of the paintings housed in the various TATE galleries.

You are to design a range (3) of paint labels to be sold under the name of the TATE gallery. Your design should be based on the characteristics of a well known Art movement/artist as the theme for the new colour palette in the collection. Select three appropriate colours and name them with an appropriate connection to the artist /movement that has inspired your design. E.g. the Van Gogh range may have a colour such as 'Sunflower'.

What is Graphic design? 2011

You are required to visually communicate and promote the subject of Graphic Design itself. You will achieve this by making an investigation into the literal, technical processes and imagery commonly associated with graphic design (pencils, brushes, typefaces, computers), and by a development of abstract concepts and visual metaphors.

Self Set Project

Advertising is paid or sometimes free communication through a medium in which the sponsor is identified and the message is controlled. Variations include publicity, public relations, product placement, sponsorship, and sales promotion.

Every major medium is used to deliver these messages, including: television, radio, movies, magazines, newspapers, the Internet, and billboards. Advertisements can also be seen on commercial vehicles, on the walls of an airport walkway, on the sides of buses, heard in telephone hold messages and in-store PA systems. Advertisements are usually placed anywhere an audience can easily and/or frequently access visuals and/or audio, especially on clothing.
