Warrington Grassroots
This year we are supporting the Mayor's charity which for 2010-2011 is Warrington Grassroots.
The Grassroots Fund was launched in 2008 to specifically help local voluntary and community groups in Warrington - to enable them to better carry out their work, achieve their aims and become more effective. The fund offers access to small grants for events, equipment and other essential resources to make a real and immediate difference to activities that lie at the heart of Warrington's communities. Since it started in 2008, £150,000 has been issued to different organisations and every pound raised is doubled by the government.
The fund is managed by the Warrington Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), an independent organisation that has been providing help for local groups for over 100 years.

For the 2011 Catwalk we have decided to update the stage banners with new and exciting artwork featuring garments designed and worn by students here at Priestley College. These are the same dimensions as the previous boards but it was felt that a design featuring the fabulous works created by the students would be more benificial and give a flavour of what the audience could expect to see during the event. |

The Tim Parry Jonathan Ball Foundation for Peace
The Foundation for Peace was created by the parents of 12 yr old Tim Parry and is supported by the parents of 3yr old Jonathan Ball. Both children were tragically killed as a result of the IRA bombing of Warrington on the 20th March 1993. Many other people were injured and manymore carry the emotional scars of that day. The Peace Centre opened on 20th March 2000 and seeks to promote the understanding, management and non violent resolution of conflict. The centre mainly works with young people and children, victims of political violence and former military and paramilitary combatants. The centre's work is organised into four different areas: Children for Peace, Communities for Peace, Survivors for Peace and Campaign and Influence. Through Children for Peace which works with 5-19 yr olds, the centre provides educational programmes for children and young people, workshops and citizenship programmes.
We are aware that a number of students at Priestley College have benefited from attending courses at the centre, such as for anger management, during their time at school or they have used the facilities (sports hall, arts room, cyber café, games room) available at the centre. We were very keen to support this valuable community resource through this year's catwalk show and look forward to learning more about their work.

Designs for the boards which will stand either side of the stage during the catwalk show. They are both 2A0 -- 1189 x 1682 mm -- 46.8 x 66.2 inches, so they have real impact from distance. A flat colour design was chosen to keep it simple and effective. Below is a shot from the afternoon performance to the students showing the setup of the stage and arena. |
