Jacob Holton - Space Between Throughout the project I have experimented on work with adding something from each previous experimentation, this was to get growth and attempt to refine and show sophistication progressing through the sketchbook. For each stage of the experimentation, I have given reference to artist influences. The research taken to develop the experimentation as a base point has taken my project away from its initial link to music, the link to music has now become another research factor defining the roles we play in our lives. The work produced throughout the project have acted as responses to the emotional and representative of what we feel when dealing with the different roles we play through our lives, however the expressionistic style leaves the work open to interpretation. In terms of improving, when looking back at the work produced, I feel I could have made a more varied sample of responses to research rather than stay in a pure fine art boundary. Maybe just like the theme of my project I have put myself in the limited roles of fine art rather than branching into other forms of art. However, there was little reasoning to adding different art forms into my project and I feel happy with staying in a fine art route. In addition, despite previously saying "limited", I do believe that I have become more refined within the fine art route; I have managed to define and refine my own artistic style making my work more personal and recognisable as my own outcomes. For my major project, I have produced two final outcomes as well as showing the piece of work that lead me towards the two final outcomes, the first is a portrait of two faces compressed into one side of a cardboard background. The faces is interchangeable isolating the flaps that are on the cardboard, I believe this piece is the most expressionistic that I have produced of the three pieces presented; this is because I believe it is the hardest to define and piece together the faces. It requires a lot of visual contact to make out the faces. The purpose of this is to show the way in which we interchange our personalities to suit our peers that we became clouded that we cannot recognise ourselves. The last piece is the freestanding double-sided portrait. The purpose of this was to show how we transition between roles in contrasting emotions forced to coexist. I tore really deeply into this piece to show how we can crumble at the seams the longer we repress ourselves, the emotions bottle up until we burst. The reason the work has been curated in this way is that I believe it further emphasises the transition between the different roles and as your walk around the final outcomes you are shown a mixture of emotions in utter vulnerability that you are bombarded with thoughts and interpretations. This is because I want the audience to think about the roles we have been given, realising they are repression in society.

Ruby-Rose McGann- Northern Identity I wanted to explore the notion of using Northern Identity to communicate different ideas of class, gender and lifestyle amongst other defining features. With the aim to combat the prejudice Northern England is subjected to through most media and popular culture, my intention for my FMP was to eradicate elitist attitudes to the north/south divide, particularly Southern bias and how this alters our attitudes and values. I wanted to dispell the notion that the north is "grim" and replace it with the vibrant, diverse and individual reality of Northern England. Through references to positive represetations of the North in film, television, literature and popular culture; as well as personal ideas, insights and research I complied a collection of inspiration for outcomes that would then become part of my installation work. My final outcome brings together a range of different practices to become the décor of a kitschy working class living room from the 80s- with the intention to appear 'lived in', almost like a still life installation. I chose to create a living room as I feel that stereotypical northern exchanges can be accustomed to this space, therefore making my work with words, motifs, symbols and icons relevant. I took inspiration from architypal representations in the media like the Royle Family and East is East and collected and embellished both household items that I thought would fit with the style but also be more complex and interesting conceptually.

Tom Antrobus - Inaccessable Spaces The title for my project is inaccessible spaces. The idea for this project ,in which I am looking to peruse, is the idea is to adapt different areas which are inaccessible and through development make it accessable whilst also allowing for maximisation of space within these areas. This problem relates to Architecture in a multitude of different ways due to this problem revolving around the issue of housing and creating sutable houses for high population areas. This question will also have me look into the different aspects of Architecture allowing for indpeth development and also the use of commercial techniques. This question allows me to bolster my understanding about Architecture and the way in which you can create structures which have a purpuse whilst also looking asthetically good whilst also allowing me to explore new creative mediums to show my designs and understanding of Architecture and the politics behind design.

Jessica Hancox - A Star Sign Series The title of my project is "A Star Sign Series", I will aim to produce two sets of 12 images, all of which relating and representing each zodiac sign from Aquarius to Capricorn. The sets of images will differ in style; one set will focus on the art of light painting to draw in an abstract way. This first set of images will be more directly reflective of the zodiac individualities using specific symbolism universally known to relate to the signs, therefore allowing me to focus more on the technical aspects of light painting, enhancing my technical photographic ability by experimenting with a new skill. The other will focus on a more commercial style of photography using makeup to highlight colour themes and props to show characteristics. This set of images will be suitable for a fashion magazine and will have the purpose of selling the makeup products that I use for each look. The purpose of experimenting with contrasting styles of photography will extend my ability to create successful photography for a range of audiences and demands and will allow me to refine my graphic design abilities. |
The core influence for the concept of my project stemmed from a poem series written by a friend posted on wordpress. The series consists of 12 poems with each containing a character of each star sign, all of which have their signs expected characteristics. As well as this another key starting point for my project is the work of the makeup artist Setareh Hosseini who combines beauty and astrology in a series of looks. I have always been interested in astrology and keen to find out more about the ways in which the planets can have a possible impact on an individual's life and their characteristics. However for my own series of star sign imagery i will require much more knowledge on learning the specific traits and the relationships they have with other star signs, not only this i will need to research about the history of astrology, the science behind it (both psychologically and philosophically) and the everlasting question on the believability on the positioning of the stars and or planets determining a humans life. This research will be conducted through use of youtube videos, online articles and books such as "The Secret Language of Birthdays" written by Gary Goldschneider. |
The diverse range of colours and styles within the first set of star sign imagery i created works well for describing the different characteristics typically associated with each of the star signs. I also took my original concept further and chose to then create a secondary set of images which represent an opposing view to the first, the second set of images, where you can see raw images of people wiping away their makeup, is incredibly powerful for reflecting the view of those who do not believe in astrology and do not believe that the stars have the ability to define a person. This means the results of my project are unbiased and can evoke emotion from all people whether they believe in astrology or not. I particularly enjoy the contrast in styles, the first set of images show examples of graphic design with the use of incorporating the constellations whereas the second focuses purely on the image itself and is much more reflective of contemporary photography. During the creation of my project i found it difficult to find 12 willing participants to have makeup upon their face, this meant i had to use the same person for more than one sign in a few of my final images, if i could have i would have much rather had a different person for each sign and have each person represent their actual star sign. |

Kerry Eakins - Damage and Repair I wanted to investigate ways in which we damage ourselves and what actions we do that "repair" our emotions. This concept is something that interests me because I am affected by it, for example if someone is feeling down they might go out for drinks with their friends to brighten their mood, however this is feeding a problem with a damaging substance which then has long term effects. I experimented with different forms of photography and manipulation in PhotoShop when covering the different topics within my FMP, I started off quite literal with peoples faces and objects like wine bottles and cigarette ends, then I became more abstract with my plaster fruit and veg covered with chocolate sauce. When I look back on my final major project, I wish I had maybe taken a more personal response to the brief and taken a topic which could have allowed me to explore more typography and printing techniques, alongside using more fine art techniques like illustration. I enjoyed creating my embroidery typography of smoking facts which I pinned onto other students to photograph whilst they were smoking, which I then manipulated in PhotoShop. |

Rachata Wancha - Absent and Present It is about our perspective of our lives, our personal space and the present of people around us but we all tend to ignore them anyway, but we all know that there will always be present around us in our life. I have taken various approaches in creating the sculpture planning on the position; what body part that will be cast? How will the sculpture will look? What effect will it affect the audience mind? What the first think they thought of when they look at the work? In addition, how will I layout the sculpture in the exhibition to create an atmospheric space? I ask these questions myself during the process of creating the sculpture. |
I have encounter multiple challenges trying to figure out what to do with the material that I have; expanding foam, sand, plaster and calico. Before I try work with expanding foam and sand I first theorise and research the material, it effect and the outcome of the piece. If I were to use sand and plaster the piece would look rugged and if I were to mix the calico with plaster to create print of person body for a base for the expanding foam to create that specific body part, then it would not fit the theme of present and absent, it would not feel ghostly because of it blight colour and air pockets. |
I would not change anything about the sculpture that I have done because the theme that I have come up with are very in-depth and communicate with the audience, the sculpture itself says something to the audience, that is what I am satisfied with. If I were to accomplish something different it would be to create more of the abstract sculpture and maybe add colours onto the sculpture to create forced mood. The main theme and visual of the project are to be about our senses and if I were to add colours it would most likely not be suitable. Everything about my sculptures are about our vivid senses, it's supposed to look like what people would think about what is behind them, but we are looking at it from our front. |

Sophie Booth - Noitcelfer Fles With the title of 'Noitcelfer Fles' (Self Reflection) I set about with the ambition to create a body of work which captured various ways in which self reflection could be explored and interpreted. This particular installation of a collection of mirrors, coloured pencil drawings and watercolour paintings is intended to comment upon an evidential obsession with appearances that we as a society have increasingly seemed to cultivate. I have |
deliberately left each piece unfinished as a nod to the assumed lack of identity that would come about as a result of the loss of our ability to pass critique on our physical being. As someone who often finds themselves saying that a piece of work is unfinished as a way of avoiding judgement from others, the incomplete nature of the pieces also act as a personal point of self reflection and growth in that I have forced myself to overcome being uncomfortable |
with the idea of people viewing my work no matter what level of refinement it has reached. Looking back on my previous attitudes has allowed me to move forward, just like how if you are to look into these mirrors the reflection of the writing on the wall behind becomes readable; sometimes it takes looking at things from different perspectives in order for them to be realised. |

Sophie Raynor - Does Sound Have Form? 'Below The Line' is my project title, referring to the British poverty line, when and how we fall below it, and how accurately it defines what poverty in our modern British society really is. I intend on creating personal responses through mediums such as installation, ceramics, print and textiles that raise awareness of the issues of poverty in the UK, as well as encourage people to consider how complicated and indepth the issues of homlessness and poverty actually are. I plan on on visually demonstrating that becoming homeless is a process that develops in steps, becoming more and financially unstable, that can be stopped from progressing at several stages with outside support. Relative poverty is a theme I also wish to explore; do thers consider themsleves to be in poverty and financial difficulty merely because they have less consumerist good that support their wealth status than those that surround them. Combining the psychology of how poverty, including homelessness and starvation, can make someone feel, with the influence of economics and personal circumstances that create these issues I aim to create work that |
when displayed makes an audience question their own perceptions of poverty, the stereotypes surrounding it they may be submissive to themselves and how they'd cope living in the same circumstances of those less fortunate than them. I hope for this to take the form of a large scale installation, incorporating sculpture, textiles works, ceramics and sound, to engage both the sight and sound of those that are homeless, and the ultimate goal of this outcome being to creat empathy and understanding within the viewer, changing their perception of poverty permanently. Overall I'm satisfied with how my fmp on poverty in the UK has spanned out and developed, I feel as though I've explored the topic of poverty in as much depth as possible, looking at variations of the term including relative poverty and what different people perceive poverty to be depending on their own circumstances, and meanwhile created a wide range of practical work to support this exploration. Over the duration of this project I did come across various |
hurdles, especially when experimenting with mediums such as wax and plastic carrier bags that I hadn't manipulated before, but the more I tested different techniques with these mediums the more I came to grips with them and understood their individual quirks. This kind of experimentation and adaptation to new mediums and techniques increased my confidence in my own skills as well as my willingness to play around with things I'd never considered working with before. If I was to change anything about how this project has developed as a whole I would consider creating some more work with more traditional fine art mediums such as charcoal drawing, painting, or clay sculpture, however not focusing on traditional mediums has allowed me to develop my own skills further than I thought I would have done. |

Tom Frankish - Science and Art Do you ever think about the face behind your clothing? The global fashion industry is estimated to employ 1 in every 6 people alive in the world today, yet we forget about those who are stuck in sweatshops working 16 hours a day, seven days a week to make our clothing. Faces to a name are only recognised during times of crisis, with the Rana Plaza garment factory disaster in 2013, bringing to light the dangerous effects of mass production. My aim in this piece is to convey the issue of mass production and our spending habits. As a society we |
own more than we need, with new collections and styles coming out every season, I wanted to question whether we can carry on with this attitude to fashion. After research I found I own 11 pairs of jeans, this is reflected in the images placed in my exhibition. You can see how it is a struggle to fit all 11 pairs on, this reflects the message of owning more than I need. I have attached a pair of my own jeans to this exhibition, these jeans represent our version of a luxury item. When we buy a pair of jeans we buy them not as a necessary item, but as a luxury purchase. My aim with the denim sacks below is to represent what the equivalent would be to a garment |
worker. To them, £42 would buy them nine 10kg sacks of rice; to them this is a necessity. Do we need to start being more ethically conscious when buying our clothing when our luxury is someone else's necessity? I have also displayed my work on my blog which contains extras to this project, please go take a look at: thepriceoffashion1.blogspot.com Alternatively scan the QR code placed on the wall to take you straight to this website. |

Leia Barlow - Current Affairs My final piece is composed of a Drag Queen costume influenced by the current affairs and issues within America. I incorporated a lace up bodice and cage skirt to accentuate female traits, this contrasts the masculinity of the suit; I also created a patchwork train show casing illustrations and text using different techniques such as monoprinting, embroidery, and reverse applique. I delved into exploring different aspects of culture in America and investigated modern issues regarding politics, health, and crime – this includes gun control, school shootings, obesity, nuclear warfare, and issues within the LGBTQ community. These are also displayed as articles on the wall in a random, poster style configuration, I also used my garment in a photoshoot using a male model that I dressed in drag. The main influences for different elements of my garment are Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler, and a dress worn by Joy Villa at the 2017 Grammys. I started my project through learning the history of drag from the Elizabethan Era where men played female roles in Shakespeare's plays. Following group critiques and tutorials early in my project, my direction changed as I wanted to explore and address current affairs using drag as a platform. |

Holly Kitchingman - Human Form In reflection, I believe my FMP was successful in depicting the message of how the human form can be portrayed in different creative ways; from classic observation and illustration, during the 15th century, to modern scientific technology as well as exploring the ways anatomy was studied throughout generations. Overall, my FMP ran smoothly, I stuck to plan and kept my idea strong and thorough. I decided to base the bulk of my developmental work on printing and illustrating which I think suited the theme well however, to improve and widen my techniques, I would have liked to work with photoshop and graphics more. I believe this could have opened a new door for my idea and help develop my idea better. During the start of my final piece, some minor issues arose when deciding what main material to work with and how it would be exhibited. I initially wanted to work with glass, by etching, printing, collaging, labelling and illustrating onto 5 large slabs however I found that it was expensive, fragile and unpredictable to work with. I continued to work with small panes of glass to see how my experimental work would look as I wanted to keep the same transparent effect. Ultimately, to overcome this, I opted for perspex and was able to find cheap uniform slabs which worked better than glass would have done. It was safer to use and still held my desired clinical, sophicated, simplistic effect. |

Naomi Clarke - Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder The reason I have decided to do this topic, is because there can be a range of possible answers, because no-one is the same. For example, my sister and I are only a year apart and have grown up together, being nurtured the same, however we still have different opinions on different topics. Therefore, I want to show what the differences are in people's opinions are whether it is from nurture or nature. For this project, I planned to produce an editorial piece to show my audience that there is no one answer to what makes something beautiful. The reason I have chosen to do an editorial piece for this project, is due to the fact I think it's a good way to communicate this topic to my audience in a way that will make it seem more interesting. This is also what I would like to do for my job; therefore, I thought it would be a good idea for my last project to show this. With this project, I used a range of techniques, media and processes, to get the best outcome I could. This was through either my opinion or opinion from others, through conversations or group crits. For example, once I had decided what ideas I was going to do, I then did a range of photoshoots. Then comparing them to other artist's work, as photos are a big part to editorial design. When creating my magazine, I had to do a range of development, whether this was imagery, typography or overlay layout. However, not everything was smooth and easy. The problems that I faced while creating my magazine were; even spread of imagery, balance of text with imagery, timing, and adding pages to make it divisible once I had added the text. Despite this, each problem helped me to get the outcome I reached. |

Richard Sharp - Existence The title of my project will be 'Existence', and throughout this project I will aim to investigate the ideologies and concepts that are associated with the subject of existence; whether it be from a scientific stand point, psychological, philosophical or sociological – which are all areas which I have begun to research. I will aim to produce a series of works which delve into the visuals that these academic areas may produce in relation to the topic of existence, using various theories and hypothesise drawn from academics such as Jean-Paul Sartre as a basis for me to begin creating visuals that represent what it means to exist. Whilst completing this work, I will aim to make use of a varied range of medias as to properly investigate and experiment with the ways in which existence can be realised in a piece of work, whether it be via a digital formatted piece of work using Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. or via a more practical approach, possibly creating a sculpture or something similar to this as a means to convey the messages that are associated with idea of existence and what it means to be, from the viewpoint of a more sophistaced viewpoint, that is shown through these various academic subjects. Throughout the duration of my major project I have been able to produce a set of high quality work in my opinion, attempting to branch out my skill set and tackle a less familiar area within art - sculpture making. This was something I was eager to do after looking at the work of others within this field such as Michael Murphy. Furthering on this, I found that I am able to work with a range of techniques and methods both familiar and unfamiliar to realise my work in my vision - this was something which I believed was particularly important when working with more conceptual ideas, as each of the pieces do. The perspex face piece aims to deal with the sociological ideology of the Social Penetration Theory, which explains the way in which a person different integral layers to their personality, which are broken down layer by layer; this is the reason I chose to create this extended graphic piece, which breaks the face down into five layers, mirroring the way in which the Social Penetration Theory breaks down the various layers. This is one example of many shown throughout my exhibit which delves into visualising these ideologies. During this project I have encountered only minor problems which have been easily overcome, for example outsourcing materials that were not available within college, and as such only minor remedies were needed such as purchasing the material from B&Q.

Charlene Phillips - The End is Near There are two parts to my final piece the first are the crosses with the pictures on, this is a three part series of the persons face, their response to what they think happens when you die and a picture that I have created to visually show their response, as everyone believes that different things happen when you die I thought it would be interesting to try and recreate people's ideas. I think this turned out well, however I did have a issue with keeping them all up right so some are placed so that they can lean on the wall, I also like this effect because in a graveyard the tombstones are angled and sized all differently. The second part is the floating woman which is based off a talk I went to and got told that in some cases our limbs can lose sense of gravity and rise up. My idea from that was to create a cast of a body which proved difficult using masking tape and cling film because there was no support inside it and limbs kept falling off, however in the end it stayed together. I wanted the illusion to look like she is floating by helium balloons so I used fishing wire to support her underneath and threw her off the balcony, at first I wanted her lay straight however when it naturally fell into that position I thought it made the illusion look more realistic, one foot is half off and I thought that I would leave it because as it is dead I quite like how it looks broken. If i were to change anything I would of used paper mache to create the body because it would have been a lot more sturdier, however I do not think that it would give the same effect of being a little bumped and bruised because I feel that this aspect makes it look more real, I also had an issue with the helium balloons as they only last 8 hours therefore I have had to keep changing them which was a little tricky. Overall I am really happy with how both of my pieces turned out and I think that it portrays everything that I wanted it to. |

Jordana Fradley - Decaying Building This exhibition installation I have created is done in a way in which I chose to see a decaying building. Here I had taken this space and transformed it into something which is lively and has an atmosphere of a small hovel or home to create the aura of a decaying/abandoned building. I had chosen to line the walls with fabric to create the sense of destruction and neglect which a destroyed building would have however instead of just ruining the walls I added fabric. The fabric symbolises beauty as its patterns and colours enhance the points I had aimed to get across as they contrast with the destruction present to create a sense of admirable content. I had burnt the fabric as well as painted over it to show how when something is destroyed it is not necessarily unusable and it may still have a purpose even though it may only be to please the eye. Along the top there are wooden beams which I had ripped and cut fabric and suspended it on these beams to create a sense of the building falling apart and becoming fragmented within its destruction. Along the central areas I had branches which were what I used to symbolise structural beams that a building may have to show that it is still somewhat a structural form however distorted and neglected. Below all of this there is a small pile of rubble in one corner which I had placed carefully to emphasise the fact that this is a building and some of it has fallen apart, which is why above the rubble pile there is light shining through. I had chosen this light to come through there to exaggerate the idea that this is a decaying building with no power, with no electricity, with no love and that the only area light would come from was the gaps and cracks in the roof. Over all im exploring the Limits of Destruction trying to prove that not all things that are broken are worth discarding, that some things need a little bit of attention to be functionable in another sense rather than the initial purpose given. |

Maisie Stones - Alternate Approaches My project is titled 'Alternative approaches to drawing.' In this project I explored ?different ways drawings can be created in quite abstract ways, relating it to how drawing can be a way of expressing emotions. I wanted to try new techniques and experiment with different materials which I feel I have done successfully. On reflection, I feel I achieved what I set out to do and was able to explore a variety of approaches to drawing. I was able to look at three different categories of drawing in particular, which I entitled Nature, Blind and Gravity. Some challenges I faced with this project were practicality issues, especially for my large scale ink pieces, as the approaches I explored were quite abstract and required often unusual materials and circumstances. However, with that being said, I feel I successfully overcame these issues and was able to create drawings that were ambitious and that I could relate back to looking at how drawings can convey feelings. I achieved strong curator ship skills when looking at possible exhibition layouts, deciding how I wanted my work to be displayed and what pieces I thought would reflect the project best as a whole. I also had to decide where I wanted my exhibition and how I would organise it, which we discussed in groups and worked as teams to decide. The project developed in a very natural way as I began with looking at the marks that could be made from trees and nature. The fluidity and abstract nature of these pieces then lead onto the ink drawings, where I was able to explore further different approaches of drawing. I then wanted to look at how mental health and feelings could be portrayed through these abstract approaches. This is when I developed the yoga drawing from my personal experiences with mental health disorders and used meditation/yoga exercises I had been taught to create a piece that reflects how therapy and meditation can make a person feel calm and reduce stress. I feel I was successful in doing so as the marks created were very fluid and gestural which reflects, in my opinion, feeling relaxed and calm. If I were to do this project again I would like more time to explore and look deeper into the different approaches and maybe develop some of my work further. Due to time restrictions, I had to look at many different approaches and couldn't develop some of the techniques further which I would've liked to have done. However, overall, I feel that I was able to explore a lot of abstract concepts and interesting ideas and I am happy with the exhibition and work that I have produced. |

Charlotte Dobson - Individuality With 7.6 billion people living in the world, it is of significance to understand all individuals. Individuality can be defined as the quality or character of a particular person or thing that distinguishes them from others of the same kind. From this, the question can be raised: how is one's individuality expressed and identified as a triplet, a set of three individuals? This exhibition offers a response and investigation. Looking at various philosophical and psychological essays, websites, books, videos, and theories, I gained a greater knowledge to address and respond to the question that I have set. Through my work |
influence of various photographers can be seen: Sophie Calle and the importance of objects in describing something, Adam Holtzman and producing a monochromatic tonal range and lastly Martina Mullaney, with texture, colour and composition. Above all, David Hilliard was the main influence within my work and his triptych approach. Rather than manipulating the images, I followed quite a muted, simplistic approach, yet one that has worked effectively. After photographing objects, namely toothbrushes, beds, curtains and jewellery to show our aesthetic interests, I wanted to visually communicate our different personalities through the medium of photography to investigate our individuality further. I expressed extraversion through watercolours, agreeableness through various |
intensities of orange, openness through doors, conscientiousness through folded paper and neuroticism through pixelated camera imagery, jigsaw pieces with lined paper and lastly nursing equipment. A series of three images collectively represents triplets, yet each single image reflects individuality. The similarities and differences between each of my sisters (Jasmin and Katrina) and I are explored through objects and personality traits. . |

Georgia Taylor - A Journey Through Perception The title of my project is A Journey Through Perception, and in this project I will work towards creating a wide variety of paintings and mixed media pieces based on different places. I hope to be able to not only show this physical journey I have been on through my drawings and collection materials and memoirs, maps and photographs, but I also hope this gives me a more personal journey to go on where I challenege my perception of things, and disociate my self from my surroundings and become an observer and documentor of my surroundings. By doing this I hope to accuretely portray a true dipction of the essence and feel of a space, whilst giving people an insight into my perception at that very time. In ways this will relate to my previous practice with human interaction because at times I will observe lots of people at once and how they communicate or walk past each other in their own worlds, which will be common in a city enviroment. I will observe busy comsumeristic enviroments in contrast with quiet natural spaces which I think will create a nice body of work full of multple perspectives of my journeys. I am pleased with the work I have produced previously as I have effectively developed my ability to draw the human form and depict themes within portrature. I have learnt how to work contexually and paint to present an idea of something or that somene can relate to. I feel that my work before this project was sometimes experimental but mostly depicted human form primarily as the subject point, and I never really work on structures and space and the effect a space can have. I feel that this has influenced my decision to want to draw spaces as it is something I havent done and I want to descover and develop my ability to capture the engery that exists outside of people. I want to step away from mt illustrative style and work more with layering of colours and marks, in a way that suggests the scene as supposed to drawing it how it appears.

Rosie Bamber - Auntie Nic Throughout this project I have wanted to explore and create work to remember my Aunty Nic. I can't put into words how much I love and miss everything about her, so though this piece I have tried to express that. Through pictures, objects, colours, drawings and words I have tried to capture my Aunty and special moments for me and my family in this grieving process. These memories I hope will now be seen in a positive light and we can celebrate her for all of the good things. In this piece I have included two of my Aunty Nic's own paintings which can be seen through my work, they are the influence and foundation to this project. My Aunty Nic was always the one who encouraged my creativity and inspired me to take this Art Foundation course. This exhibition I hope she will be proud of, and I hope it allows you to have a brief insight to her amazing, calming and creative personality.

Alexandra Mooney - Society is Control I decided to make a church/confession box. This will be an interactive piece, during the exhibition where people will take a postcard off the side and write an answer to either of the following questions; have you ever wanted to do something but have not because you felt like you'd be judged due to social norms? Or, what is something you do at home on your own that if people knew about they'd think you were 'weird'? I decided to do an interactive piece as i think it is the only proper way to show social control, even the act of filling out a postcard could be classed as a form of control as people may hold back from writing something they do because they think it's weird and dont want people to know, even though its anonymous. I decided to look into social control as it is a topic that really interests me and i wanted to be able to make a judgement on whether social control is a positive or a negative thing. I have come to the conclusion that it is both, without some sort of control society wouldn't run in order but i also think that things like judging people for not fitting in with social norms is a very negative thing and isn't needed within society.

Marcelle Jones - 4 Shades of Grey My FMP is an expression of my long term mental health struggles which have affected the most part of this college year. Taking my inspiration from Abstract Expressionist artists such as Mark Rothko and Hans Hoffman to name a few, it tells a story through the use of colour, texture and ordered chaos, of a life that has been taken over by the inability to feel. A loss of emotion, interest and passion that were once there, the remnants of feelings and distant memories of times that were not so cold and unresponsive. All that is left to be felt is not authentic emotion, but symptoms of anxiety and depression about the current state of mind which does not seem to be changing any time soon. The focal point of the main piece, the flat grey square, is a manifestation of numbness and is at the forefront. Although part of the same piece, it seems detached from everything going on around it. This detachment can make life, from all aspects, very difficult to live. It is a link to the piece below. '4 shades of grey' is a minimalist representation of how life can feel most days. The texture is at the forefront of this piece; the darker the shade the more turbulent the texture and brushstrokes. This insinuates the capacity to still feel some sort of sensation, but it is more to do with mental turmoil, and not positive emotion, hence the lack of colour. Despite this project being quite depressing, I have used it as a way of understanding and coming to terms with how I feel and am very pleased to have produced something so personal, as well as something I am proud to say I created. |

Jessica Morris - The Death Of Beauty Using Audacity again, I chose an old video of me singing a song by a band called Manchester orchestra, a song called Play It Again Sam! , however since I was not the biggest fan of the vocals or the piece of music, I reversed the whole recording. This has been made the same way as my last experiment, converting mp3 into a WAV file and developing sounds on audacity. The eerie noises make me very excited on how my interpretation piece of art will develop. I will also post this on Sound cloud, where I keep all of my own 'noise' for my project as shown. |
As my synaesthesia paintings have increased greatly. I may create something that looks like what I hear, taking note of the rhythm, distortion and my own voice. It would be a good start to create a sculpture of something, despite the reality of it probably becoming extremely distorted. I have an idea of a sort of self-portrait of my face, but it will be extremely eerie and the whole process will be unpredictable. I have decided that I would like to turn this into a sculpture, and the perfect artist for that would be Carol Steen. Artist, writer, curator and also suffers from the neurological condition synaesthesia, however she has |
not labelled her speciality technique for sculpture, she created a sculpture called Cyto — is her representation of neurologist Dr. Richard Cytowic's name. I also have a great idea to relate my sculpture to Cy Twombly's work, American painter, sculptor and photographer. He belonged to the generation of Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. I take inspiration from 'Amuse' and the hectic writing that came along with the sculpture. |

Olivia Kubiak - Rave Culture For this project I wanted to focus on rave culture, which emerged in the 80s from Chicago and how it has evolved throughout the years until today. My starting point for this was to look at fashion influences of different music scenes, starting by looking at the 'Second Summer of Love' and the Acid House scene, then moving onto the 90s jungle and garage scenes which were influenced by Italian Fashion Houses such as Versace and Moschino. I have concluded my research throughout these two garments and created a photo shoot which helps bring together all the other ideas and concepts related to rave culture including the negative aspects. I have looked at crime, drugs and environmental damage, but also the positive side such as the music, fashion, a way to protest peacefully; for example the working class protested against Margaret Thatcher's attempt at banning raves during the late 80s and early 90s, sociological aspects such as impact on youth cultures and embracing freedom. I have used different types of media and techniques including embroidery, drawing, collage making, photography and manipulating my work using software such as PhotoShop and illustrator to communicate the positive and negative aspects of rave culture. I started by making samples using suitable imagery, I have done this through embroidery, collage making and drawings which I have then edited digitally. The final photoshoot was originally meant to be done outdoors, however I have produced it in the photography studio instead using a black background as I felt that this gave it a more professional, high fashion finish which mirrors editorial fashion photography. By covering a large variety of different topics, this has helped me develop my skills as well as gain new ones through trying out different media and processes and I have learnt a lot through group critique as it helped me to acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses. Looking at different issues and reflecting on them through my samples and further development has helped me to put together my final pieces in a well thought out manner and I have managed to cover most aspects of rave culture through textiles and photography. |

Nick Wilson - Alter Ego I looked into character game design on behance and a couple of tutorials on youtube about character design and what requirements that I would need to start doing my own character designs. This would require a decent sculpting software and a form of knowledge of illustration. So I began to look into the different artists that would influence me in my development, looking at Disney and the artists that created characters featured in Mulan and Up. They used a variety of techniques such as typical illustration and digital modeling and redering up to clay sculpting. I will be looking into more documentarys of chracter design and the studios that run them. I am going to be having my theme where my alter ego is my digital character and will be package as a product with a side story. |
The title of the project will be "Alter ego", during the process of making the final product of my research and digital/practical work I will be using many techniques such as digital modeling and hopefully utilising the 3D printer. Exploring these techniques will help me get a good understanding of what I have to do to produce the best outcome and to have a thorough documentation that will show the weaknesses and the strengths of the project. My goal is to have an outcome that reaches the main meaning of the project and captures the right essence of what I had worked up to. I hope to use this project to extend my views on my theme and increase my over all knowledge and skill in these areas of work as I would like to work more like this in the future doing other digitally rendered sculpters. |
On reflection, I could have done a couple of things diferently, for example, when I came to producing the work I faced the challenge of 3D printing and the regulations that stopped me from actually getting a physical print. So instead of creating a 3D print I will display a virtual 3D viewer, this viewer will be placed along with my final designs that I have exhibited. I didn't have enough time to expand the research phase as I spent a lot of time figuring out the sculpting process. Overall I am happy with the chosen theme and have been very precise with what I wanted to do, however I did encounter various problems that I tried to rectify, but sadly didn't have enough time or the ability to fully release the outcome. |

Ben Smart - Landscapes of Loneliness My FMP project is called Landscapes Of Loneliness and is about conveying the mindset of someone who is lonely through painted landscapes with text layered over the top. My idea behind this came from researching into how different artists use there |
loneliness as a sort of inspiration to create some of their best work. Some articles that I read into explained that loneliness is a key element in creating the best work so when creating my final two pieces I put that into practice and secluded myself from. |
people until both pieces were finished to see if the outcome of my work was better. As unsettling as it is to be left alone with your own thoughts I also found it easier to concentrate better on the matter at hand and ended up really enjoying the work that was made |

Holly Arnold - Victim to Ignorance My piece is about Medusa and her life story of how she came to be this monster we know her as today. However, with this and from my research I wanted to show that she wasn't the monster that she is portrayed as in all the stories we are told, she was merely the victim in a cruel category of ignorance to: sexual abuse, jealousy, and murder; all of these either put on her by egotistical men and how hierarchy cause dramatic influences on "The little people". I was influenced by a lot of artists for this series I have done e.g. for the painting style and techniques I wanted to go for a more traditional styled Italian renaissance |
aesthetic with it, the artists who inspired me most were Piers De Cosimo and Hieronymus Bosch. I know that not many people enjoy that style or are even interested in it, so I wanted to contradict it a bit and put modern day objects and known locations in them almost like a Where's Wally kind of thing to give it that contemporary style I wanted. The reason for this is that serious things happen to men and women all the time and it seems to get unnoticed because we get too wrapped up in seeing what's happening in the background and we just look straight through the issues that are happening right in front of us, so I thought this would be a pretty cool way of portraying this. I took inspiration from Grayson Perry and the |
series of work he did 'The Vanity of Small Differences' which was based on this man's life and I thought that this worked well for me so that I could tell Medusa's story and how men and hierarchy affected her life but in the three key stages; If you take a look in my sketchbook you will understand the reasoning to the words below each piece and what each canvas symbolise. The materials used were: Acrylic paint on canvas, willow charcoal.

Mia-Leiegh Gwynn - Seven Objects In a room filled with objects the most interesting will always be the one which tells you a story upon looking at it. As a world we are used to vocal storytelling but the most alluring is the static and silent article which gives us the smallest of information but the largest amount of freedom for our minds to create these scenarios in which they can live. |
I bring to the audience seven objects. Look carefully. |

Matthew Le Surf - Medias Manipulation Of Reality I feel the outcome of my project is the best physical work I've ever created. It's definitely the biggest topic I've ever attempted to cover in my work, with all of the historical context I had to explore to even think about trying to make artwork about it. It's quite an immersive experience which I like about it. The space I chose since day 1 was the dark room. So that the Old school televisions could be plugged in and in the room in the dark with seats. A completely |
black cubicle for my work to be separated from the rest of the exhibition. I had to think about how I could safely plug in the televisions also so I got a Multiplug. Also one issue I faced was the hdmi to scart for my laptop to connect to the tv's weren't actually a thing so I had to then source dvd players. Also one of the tv's connections broke and sparked so I couldn't use it for health and safety reasons.
|
This meant that my exhibition doesn't look exactly as I intended, also with the aspect ratio being wrong on one of the dvd's I got so text is clipped in the section of the video with subliminal messages. I would change the tv's to 3 screens instead of just two if I could and I would also export longer videos for the Dvd players, simply so I didn't have to go restart the videos. |

Mimi Hadley - Micro Flat My final exhibition is composed of a scale model of a micro flat I designed and made out of foam board. I also drew out the floor plan of the flat to scale so that people could walk around the flat and also interact with the model. I positioned the model and the flat so that they were both facing the same way so that the connection between both parts could be made easily. |
I faced quite a few problems during this project such as trying to fit a flats worth of furniture in to a 3 by 3 by 3 meter cube. I tried lofting the bed above the bathroom but it was very difficult to find somewhere to put the ladder to reach the bed without out it obstructing a significant amount of floor space. In the end, I decided to use a murphy bed that also doubled as a sofa, which meant that the bed was hidden whilst not in use. |
If I were to do this project, again I would spend less time trying to use single function furniture and make a series of flat designs using multifunctional furniture such as murphy beds that double as a sofa, desks that fold flat against the wall, etc… I would also make a series of models for different flats so that I have a bigger variety of designs and more to show for the final exhibition. |

Caitlyn Farrall -Social Isolation I wanted my exhibit to create a feeling of space and also get the audience to question the theme, I feel I did well in doing this and I think my developments along the way such as experimenting with all the different medias helped me to create the piece I felt intellectuality challenged at times with my work and how I was going to achieve but through the experimenting and trials and errors I found out which worked best, for example not being able to use water dissolving fabric as a main material as it was too weak and also not using tracing paper to create the paper Mache figure as it wasn't sturdy enough where as tracing paper was still transparent enough to show light but was a lot stronger than my other sampled materials. If I were to do the project, again I would manage my time and organisation better I would have wanted to create more outcomes although I am happy with the impact of my final one, also I would change the amount of research I would have liked to take more photos and document more processes in my journal than have done and also annotate my work in more depth from the development stages throughout, overall I am happy with the outcome and feel I made a good exhibition space and represented my theme well. My project was based on social isolation and how it makes people feel, I wanted to create a solo piece that represents one figure but then also incorporate different elements of life in the figure, I wanted to translate how I felt personally and that although a person can be surrounded by others they can still feel very much alone and is the reason why I used imagery and different people to create one figure on its own, I used light to represent how individuals stand out each to their own.
