Emily Moxon - The Big Crisp For my final major project, I have teamed up with a company called Taste nation which is a company based in Warrington who provide a consultancy service and project management support to other companies regarding their own products. Taste nation has identified a gap in the market for a new style of snack, targeted at the retail grocery market. This project is in its very early stages, initially they want to create a brand identity that can be presented to customers. In this project, I will be looking to create a new brand name, brand identity and packaging design that will engage with the target audience. This will include, experimenting with a new name for the crisps, they are currently called 'Grand Chips' but my client has asked me to create a new name that is more suited to a British audience. Moreover, I will be looking to create a new logo for the crisps. Furthermore, I shall be experimenting with new packaging designs for both the individual sleeve packaging and the outer box that the crisps will be transported in. The packaging and logo need to be straight talking and easy for consumers to understand as the concept of a big crisp is new to the UK therefore to get consumers on board they need to be able to understand and relate to the packaging. In this project I would like to begin by researching into current crisp packaging, these particular crisps have a unique shape so I want to make this the focal point of the packaging as it is the USP. For my research into current |
crisp packaging I want to use Behance to find some more unique designs as well at looking at crisps you might find in your local supermarket. It is important to explore a range of influences and inspiration and to get a feel for current packaging. As well as researching current crisp packing, I will also be looking at artists who have unique illustrations. Typically, crisp packaging contains an illustration of the ingredients so I want to explore some illustration artists who may be able to influence my final packaging. Some artists I would like to look at include Alex Trochut and Tobias Hall. My initial ideas are to create 4 concepts for my packaging, these concepts will come from my brainstorms. Techniques I intend to experiment with a range of hand rendered and digital techniques. For my hand rendered techniques I want to experiment with paint, I would like to create a series of textures that I can scan in and image trace so that I can digitally manipulate them to create interesting backgrounds for the packaging. Additionally, I would like to experiment with patterns in Adobe Illustrator. I think that a lot of my work will be digital because that is the aesthetic that my client was looking for however I intend to experiment with hand rendered sketches of the logo and the ingredient illustrations. I am looking to make the packaging more fun and appealing, the target market is 18-35 year olds so I want to make the packaging more vibrant and eye catching. |

Louie Thompson - Unsaved Clothing For my final major project I will work towards producing a clothing brand that explores concepts within the culture of streetwear. This brand will be original and will have a very strong meaning behind it. To achieve this I will research into the topic of streetwear so I can gain an understanding how companies in this area advertise their products and gain interest from the target market. From my own original ideas and inspiration that I have gained I will put together a set of designs that portray my creativity and conceptual thinking. I have personally been thinking about starting up my own clothing brand for a long time as it is an interest of mine that I would really like to pursuit. Now that I am at the stage of an FMP I would really like to undertake this idea and see what I can do. I feel that from the past 2 years of studying graphics I have gained a set of skills that will allow me to produce something really professional and unique. Within the early stages of the project I will use my initial Ideas and develop a set of unique concepts. Then I will further development my ideas by researching into relevant topics and artists that will inspire me. After I understand my concept and have a vison I will arrange a photo shoot and gather relevant imagery that expresses my concept. Within weeks 4-7 I will develop my imagery and design relevant products for my clothing company. I will produce 40 development pages for this project to allow a large amount of explanation for my work. The majority of my work will be developed using Photoshop and illustrator as I feel they are best tools for what I am going to be doing. After I am happy with the work I have produced I will resolve a final outcome that is sophisticated and will engage with the target audience and interest them through the strong concepts at work. In the final weeks of the project I will make any relevant final touches to my development and clean up all my document pages. Also I will evaluate the whole project reflecting on my work that I have designed and concepts I have come up with. |

Joe Whitehead - Liquor & Co For my Final major project I chose to re brand a bar which is established in the heart of Chester by the name of Liquor and Co. I chose this bar as I really liked the style and clients that they target and the reputation of the bar in the community. The bar has a very aged and unique style which I thought would be really good to play around with and so I decided to approach it in a modern way compared to the old fashioned style they currently have going. I liked the idea of blending the two themes of the American west and geometric patterns together as they are both opposites in style and age. I chose to pick the western theme as the bar itself has an old, vintage look to it on the inside as it currently targets an older generation audience. I want to try and target a more varied audience and to make content that appeals to all ages but still fit the interior and style of the bar. The owner also wanted to launch a brand new whiskey and gin brand that was completely unique to the bar so I will look at exploring different ideas that I could apply to the designs |
When starting this project I researched different western styles and geometric patterns that I could try and get an idea from to apply to my own work. I looked at 4 different concepts that I could have potentially used for the design of the branding but thought the American west would have applied to the theme and character of the venue the best. When I was making the desired content for the branding I mostly used Adobe Illustrator as this was the best software to apply my vector graphics with and make the geometric patterns. I placed a lot of my images through Photoshop first as I changed a lot of the colours to black and white or increased the brightness and contrast of the colours. I will aim to create all branding in an allotted 11-12 weeks that we have been given. This is plenty of time to create and develop possible ideas that I can put towards the bars identity.

Yujie Lin (Nik) - Pet's Last Journey Nurturing pets is becoming a trend nowadays; they are children’s best friends when kids are growing up, they are the someone you can talk to when you by your own/feel lonely, they are…However, there is an end. Most animals have a shorter life than humans, they can’t be with us forever. My clients’ company is made for this, they hope all pets can rest in peace, and they don’t want people to feel too sad about this. They like to see all pets can be buried or kept after cremation, which is also helping to protect the environment. They are keen to make everything as warm as possible, therefore, I’m going to design a logo that I need to give it a name, and a poster to let people know what they can offer. My most important starting point is to understand the process of the pet funeral, pet cremation and all services this company offer, and develop ideas from the process. I’ll also look into some existing promotions of pet funeral services, and take influence and inspiration from them. My first idea is going down to 3D product root in the early stage, because lots of people want to keep their pets’ ashes or to make something from ashes, and in my opinion, hand-made product looks warmer than a photo of a happening pet funeral or burying pets. |
In this project, I want to use a wide range of techniques like both traditional and digital techniques, to create a nice piece and to achieve my best. In my opinion, I’m going to focus on digital methods more, for example, I can use programs like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. As I said, it’s high likely that I’ll look into traditional methods to produce 3D work, and also I can draw and paint to create some interesting textures to help my digital works. Making 3D product will be a challenge on managing time, because I won’t be able to start digital manipulation until I finish the product. I think I should try to finish the product as early as possible, which I may use the time outside of college, and develop both 3D and graphics works at the same time. From my point of view, this project is meaningful that I want to send a message of “every life should be respected” since more and more people think “animals are our friends”. This project is also educational that make people learn that they should cremate pets’ dead body before bury them, because animals’ dead body can pollute the environment badly. Lastly, I think this project is challengeable that it’s like two projects to me - 3D design and graphic design, I can develop my skills of managing time, knowledge in the art and design industry and so on. |

Daniel Ford - TRU Ninja I have been asked to design digital images for use as a marketing strategy for a Café and Ninja Assault Course. This work will be viewed by all ages as well as much younger children who visit the course. I will use a wide range of different media techniques to expand my skills and show my strengths throughout each Software. I will focus on sharing my ideas and working closely with my client since this is a live brief. One of the pieces of media that I will be creating will be a Menu for the Café. The Café and the company has a Chinese /Japanese style to it which is definitely something I will need to do a lot of research on. The Title of this project will be simple. I have decided to just give it the name 'Tru Ninja Advertising Campaign'. The main thing I will be working towards producing will be a Poster for Tru Ninja that advertises their business. I will be finding more Abstract Idea that I can use to show the Concept of Tru Ninja. |

Natalie Guest - Slice Of Life For my Final Major Project I will be working to produce a comic book called Slice of Life. In this comic book there will be a number of short comic stories following 6 characters on their different moments in life and the fun they have while together as a group of friends. This comic book I will be making will look in to the value of friendship and how no matter what happened there are always ways your friends can help you. My starting point for this idea, came from my love of comic books and drawing, I've been drawing for over 9 years now and I wanted to make my style for my drawings be a major part in my FMP. Another starting point I had was my friendship with my group of friends and how close we are as a group, I wanted to make something that reflects us as a group and how we manage to deal with any problems that come our way and that the moments we share are worth a lot. I want to be able to publish this comic book and show kids the value of a real friendship, and the fun you can have when u find the right group of friends. During my project I have plans to use a variety of materials to produce a few different things with my comic book. For the project my plan is to use my graphics tablet to produce digital high quality comic books which I will be using the program paint tool SAI to draw with and Photoshop to add any special effects to. I will be looking closely at the use of posing, camera angles, lighting and shading, dialogue and Composition.

Jamie Smith - Taco Hut For my final major project I decided to promote and represent a new up and coming business that has conveniently recently opened down my street as a Mexican sandwich shop. The food and theme is primarily surrounded by the culture of Mexican food culture but also regular toppings as we have here. The business is called Taco Hut and is part of the running theme of the Mexican style choice. Now at the moment from the clients from Taco Hut, I have been asked to create a logo for the small branding packages, menu and flyers which a minimal amount of a task to grab a hold of for my final major project so I have decided to create a whole campaign for them including the site design, menu design, label design, logo design and flyer design which will then allow the clients to see what there store can really turn into with my design criteria. My starting points of the project will be to research on rebranded food businesses like taco hut such as subway which I can take inspiration from by looking at the history of their branding. Using Behance and Pinterest will be a big part of this to help me as it will be good inspiration for understanding not only the culture of Mexico but also the design work that is involved with that country. I will then create 4 – 5 concepts which will wither be literal, abstract or both depending on what is most appropriate for the project. I was thinking of having 2 concepts seta around the culture and 2 set around the business type. Through my development of my own within this project I will focus on both sides of media, both digital and hand rendered imagery. At the moment I do believe that hand rendered imagery for the backgrounds of my imagery is the path I want to go with as it fits the design style. Water colours and brusho dyes will most likely the most appropriate as they are very vibrant with their florescent colour tones as well as being both refined and rushed depending on how I use them. |

Alexander Bentley - Petworld For my project proposal I will be re branding the a pet shop called pet world I will be spending the next 3 months creating logos and a promotional posters for the shop to bring new customers to the business, I will be focusing on unique concepts to make the business stand out. Influences, starting points and contextual references I am going to be looking at popular pet films to see what makes them stand out such as 101 Dalmatians and see spot run. I am also look at pet photography because they have a unique way of catching people's pets in a vulnerable way. An art technique I am going to look at is silhouettes. I am also going to research into art deco see if I can create a super mature piece. I am going to evaluate the fmp by asking for feedback from others and see what they think about the work I have produced and I am going to compare my work to others who have done similar things I am then going to write my honest opinion on things I have done and also i am going to write about the things that have worked well and things that haven't.

Remi Everet Healey - Rteapot The theme for my project proposal focuses corporate Identity for a coffee shop but I would say the title is the name of the coffee shop which R'Teapot. I will produce a range of items surrounding the identity of the business such as a logo, slogan and business cards I may also produce a type of uniform for the staff. The starting points of this project is the brainstorming because without this I can get all the ideas and possible directions to towards as the coffee shop also focuses on art I will be looking at different art styles and different artists to try and emulate the creativity of the place in a logo or business card by adding different art styles. Artists I would look into would Paul Rand because I find his logo and identity work to be very clever and inspiring, Stephan Sagmeister as I think his work with type will really help me out. The timescale of this project is to the deadline as I don't plan to rush it and finish early. I think to do my final outcomes I will be using the adobe software such as Illustrator for the main thing as vectors is better to use than bitmap as a media however in the development process I will be sketching out ideas using different art styles and Medias. The process for this is going to start off with brain storming, creating concepts and then working from that to create the final outcomes. My proposed method of evaluation would be a peer evaluation at first and working from that as I think if I get an honest opinion it will help me with my concepts and choosing one of them ideas after that I will do a self-evaluation at the end talking about what worked best and what I liked most.

Jamie Wesson - The Merry Melancholy I will be working towards producing an outcome that increases the awareness of the struggle that is depression. The outcome would show the audience how some people go about dealing with depression and how it can also affect their lives. I am going to keep it reasonably light hearted as to not put off an audience from viewing it whilst also keeping the seriousness of the matter. Some forms of media are able to study characters who suffer from depression, and some gloss over it more lightly, but by balancing this with possible comedic and/or happy moments it could also perk up teens- young adults who suffer from it as well. This is a sensitive subject matter that has to be dealt with care and maturity. I could look into the lives of people who are open to share about how depression effects them personally, and online blogs or research papers would be a good place to retrieve information. I intend on using a variety of mediums in this project like; pencil sketching initial outlines and plans, Ink pens to create bold and finished lines, scanning the imagery in so that I can add to them digitally, and watercolours to add colour to the imagery. I feel confident using these mediums as I have learnt new techniques over the last two years.

Lucy Blakeley - Essential Deliveries I was approached by the manager of a delivery and logistics company, called Essential Deliveries. He asked me if I was able to create a new logo for his company, and a poster to advertise his company's services. He explained to me that the logo and other designs they have, haven't been updated since the company was founded in 2004. I decided that this would be a good theme to use for my final major project, so I took on the live brief. I am planning on getting my own primary imagery, and using this to create a professional high quality logo and poster for this company. If I have time in this project, I will also work towards creating some digital mock-ups of potential advertising strategies that this company could use with the designs that I create for them. |
My client is the manager of the company, who is the original founder in 2004, Pete. I spoke with him and he said that he doesn't really have a clear idea of the look he wants for his business (colour schemes, imagery etc.) but he wants to keep it having a formal look to reflect the formality of his business, and to keep it looking high quality so the customers don't misinterpret it as being unreliable and immature. As a starting point I am going to look at his existing advertisements and website, leaflets etc. This will give me an idea about the original look of the business as my client doesn't want it changing too much, so I can take some influence and contextual reference from this. Some of my ideas may be to take the designs quite abstract and think of the time sensitivity of the deliveries, as they are all ASAP same day deliveries so this could be used as a concept with imagery of things that have to be delivered quickly. I have to be careful not to take this too comedic though, as he client wants the designs to have mature themes and be formal. |
